It comprises of musicians, teachers and ex-service instrumentalists from all over Herefordshire and neighbouring counties. It provides a high standard of music to entertain the public and raise funds for local charities.
The Band was originally founded in 1998 by Lt. Col. Roger Tomlinson, and now plays under the baton of Musical Director, Alfred Tubb.
Alfred Tubb spent many years with the Royal Corps of Transport Staff Band and was promoted to Band Sergeant Major in 1983. In 1985, after 23 years service, he left the army and went on to study composition at the University of Wales under William Mathias. He graduated in 1988 with a Bachelor of Music degree, and went on to become a Master of Music in 1990. Alfred Tubb has written prolifically for brass and concert bands, in addition to several orchestral and mixed-media works. He won the Rank Film Award for the best film music in 1988.
Alf currently runs his own music publishing company Hornblowers.
The band has recorded two CDs - A Christmas Celebration and Music from World War II (with guest soloist Evelyn Tubb).
